Sue Enquist built her name in softball and now coaches athletes and leaders well beyond it. Mark “Moose” McGrath and I asked her what flow and winning have to do with learning.
Building athletes
Sue talks about wearable technology, healthy habits and the culture around an athlete. Self-awareness and comfort with uncertainty build strong teams.
Parents set the conditions
Parents create the conditions for youth sport. Sue worries about the money, time and physical and mental load young athletes carry today. Practicing the right way matters more than the hours logged.
What good looks like
We talk about behavioral markers, the observable signs of how a team is doing. Sue shows how a simple picture of what excellence looks like, and what it doesn’t look like, helps players from a young age.
I think about this with my own daughters. Teamwork is observable, so we can describe what good looks like and help people see where they are.
What would your team’s version of excellence look like on a bad day?
