This is where No Way Out started. Mark “Moose” McGrath and I introduced ourselves and the show, and explained the title, which came from something we found in the John Boyd archives at Marine Corps University.
The forces that shape us
We talk about the forces that shape our lives and why we need to understand them to navigate well. VUCA describes much of our world. We open with the tritone paradox, a sound that different people hear differently.
Beyond the experts
We push back on leaning too hard on so-called experts and analysts. A multidisciplinary approach gives a broader range of perspectives. Boyd’s ideas apply to the arts, business, sports, markets and medicine. We also explain what we mean when we say business is war.
An orientation on orientation
We give an orientation on orientation. Perception works as a controlled hallucination, the brain’s best guess about the world, and that shapes how the OODA loop really works. Suppressing ego helps us become better versions of ourselves.
Orientation sits at the center of everything we do on this show, and this episode is where we first said so.
What first made you curious about how you see the world?
