People ask where the name No Way Out comes from. Mark “Moose” McGrath and I finally told the story in this short episode.
The archives
Mark and I spent time in the John Boyd archives. There we found a brief called No Way Out. It was the working title of one of Boyd’s most important works, Conceptual Spiral.
Why it matters
We talk about Boyd’s theories and the lessons they still hold. Uncertainty, entropy and novelty run through his thinking. To survive in a changing world, we have to keep adapting and evolving.
Thank you
We also thank the listeners who tune in every week. The show exists because of you.
Boyd’s Discourse on Winning and Losing and Destruction and Creation are both free to read, and they are the best place to start.
Conceptual Spiral puts orientation at the center of how we create and learn, and the name of this show came from it.
Which of Boyd’s works would you read first if you were starting today?
